Coronado

Rich in history, natural beauty and a charming ocean village atmosphere, Coronado is most deserving of its royal "nickname" - the Crown City.

Bordered by the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta Bay and San Diego Bay, this picturesque seaside city is linked to the Southern California coastline and the city of San Diego by the graceful and stately San Diego - Coronado Bridge, and to the south by a narrow strip of land known as the Silver Strand.

This uniquely enchanting city, which measures only 14 square miles, is home to some of world's most pristine beaches, 22 public parks, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and recreational facilities which include a public pool and dedicated bicycle paths.

The careful approach to planned development lends stability to the quality of both the residential lifestyle and the business community. Quiet tree lined streets and friendly neighborhoods provide a collection of architectural home styles from Victorian cottages to modern mansions in this uniquely quaint island community. The recognized school systems offer a high caliber of educational standards with successful results, which is a positive influence on homebuyers considering the area. Coronado residents have carried on the tradition of the island with their dedication to maintaining a landmark community.

Coronado is also home to our great military. North Island itself is host to 23 squadrons and 80 additional tenant commands and activities, one of which, the Naval Aviation Depot, is the largest aerospace employer in San Diego. North Island was commissioned a naval air station in 1917. On August 15, 1963, the station, which was originally called the Naval Air Station, San Diego until 1955, was granted official recognition as the "Birthplace of Naval Aviation" by resolution of the House Armed Services Committee.

The Naval Amphibious Base was renamed in 1946, although it had been in operation as the Amphibious Training Base since 1943. It is host to thirty commands including the headquarters for the Naval Special Warfare Command, a second echelon command that is headquarters for America's elite maritime special operations forces - the U.S. Navy SEALs and Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewmen.
